Friday 12th March : Just made it to Genoa, south of the border.Distance between towns is about two days slow going. I'm rationing food and water so I'm getting a bit moody. Twenty days to Sydney!
Letter : The pace has slowed through these hills to Genoa where I've just arrived. It's like a ghost town as motorists drive by with more rewarding destinations to achieve. The place seems a bit purposeless.
There are some blisters on the sides of my heels which are impacting on my waltzing enjoyment. Rationing makes me grumpy and the mozzies don't ever let me rest long. My focus is not so much on town to town, but more so the next bend in the road.
Apart from that it's like an amusement park with interesting things to see at every step of the way. I slept in a rainforest last night and awoke slowly with the birds. The mozzies were having some sort of festival outside my swag. I can still remember their chorus if I hum it.
Rainforests are intimidating to walk through as I'm reminded by the scale of trees that nature could, at any moment, swat me dead like a mozzie, without a second thought. It was still a serene place to wake up.
Finally my Princess turns more northerly than easterly. How exciting! Maybe it will get warm again?
Oh rot! I just looked up and there's a cloud of mozzies hanging over me, some I recognise from Bairnesdale.
I'm setting off to get a few more kilometers down the track with the daylight I have left. Goodbye Victoria, thanks for the happy memories again!

Sunday 14th March : Now in Eden planning to stuff about for most of the day. Hope you are all resting too!
cheers
Letter : Today I promised myself a rest day, only to find I've walked 5km out of Eden on my way to Pampula. It was 5km up a steep hill too!
On my way out of Genoa I chatted with a 14 year old lad who asked me if he should quit school. I was hesitant to say yes or no, but now I've thought about it I'd have to say, if he was passionate about what he was going to do instead, then definitely 'yes'; otherwise school keeps one's options a bit more open.
Here I sit across from the world's most picturesque rubbish tip. It sits high up amidst the bush with a clear view out across the Pacific Ocean. What a treat to dump waste here.
From Genoa it was a night time stroll, and a long day of rotating the pegs, left-right, to get me within spitting distance of Eden. I camped by the mouth of the Nullica, the ocean's purr and the milky way as company. Dawn over the ocean made me forget my blistered heels until I walked into town.
When I have a task I won't ever be able to rest long before I'm back at it, nibbling away, looking to get just a little bit closer before the day is done. I'm happy to be so occupied and on the move all the time. When I get to Brisbane I'll be satisfied and will be quite happy to rest then. For now I'll keep plugging away,
Swaggie
